Abbarno tours Tenino, Rochester schools, meets with school officials

Continuing his tour of schools in the 20th Legislative District, Rep. Peter Abbarno visited the Tenino and Rochester school districts on Monday, Nov. 1, where he met with education administrators and teachers. In October, Abbarno visited schools in the Morton and White Pass (Randle) school districts.

The tours were facilitated by the Washington Association of Maintenance and Operation Administrators (WAMOA), an organization of professionals engaged in management of maintenance and operations of educational facilities in Washington state.

Abbarno toured Tenino High School (grades 9-12), an older yet functioning school building which displayed signs reading “Tenino Strong.” He also visited Parkside Elementary School (grades K-2) in Tenino and toured several classrooms.

Later, the group toured Rochester High School, a building that is scheduled for eventual renovation. Abbarno visited classes that included comprehensive academic and vocational programs, including a ceramics class and a metal/welding class.

Abbarno also visited the Rochester Primary School (grades K-2), which opened in 2002.

“Providing students with a quality education and creating a learning environment for our students to excel is a priority of mine. We need to address the growing funding disparity between property-poor and property-rich districts that leave our students across Washington, especially in rural communities, with inequitable educational opportunities,” said Abbarno, R-Centralia. “These tours were a great opportunity to meet with students, parents, educators, staff, administrators, and school board members to discuss solutions for our facilities, programs, and curriculum.”
