Rep. Peter Abbarno: We need your voice in the 2022 legislative session
I want to first start by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and happy holidays! One of the great foundations of our community is your generosity and volunteer spirit. Many times in our community's history, we have seen businesses and organizations step-up and step forward to help struggling community members through a difficult time. I am very thankful to all those who have gone above and beyond to make all of our lives better.
In that same spirit, I ask that you and others in our community make your voices heard during the 2022 legislative session by sharing your ideas, thoughts, and comments with me, legislators from across the state, and the governor. Your voice is important.
Although the official 2022 legislative session begins on Jan. 10, I've been working on legislation to repeal the long-term care payroll tax, increase attention to cold water drowning through “Zach's Law,” and prevent RV and camping wastewater discharges in the Chehalis River and waterways. I've also participated in numerous House committee workshops to discuss affordable housing solutions, landlord-tenant eviction issues, and green hydrogen expansion. All these workshops are broadcast publicly on TVW and available to watch.
As a former Centralia City council member, I was frustrated by one-size-fits-all programs passed by the Legislature. I don't believe the state can solve problems that impact rural and urban communities with top-down cookie-cutter programs. I support empowering communities to solve issues that reflect their unique values and experience. This is a diverse state, and the 20th Legislative District has diverse communities. That is why your voice is so important.

I am proud, honored, and thankful to be representing you and the 20th Legislative District in the Washington House of Representatives. I look forward to hearing from you in the next session. Have a wonderful and safe Christmas and holiday season.
