Rep. Peter Abbarno proposes amendment to clean up homeless encampments near waterways; opposes final passage of HB 1181
Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, proposed Amendment 173 to House Bill 1181 that would require the “model climate change and resilience element” proposed in the bill to include policies that rehouse homeless people living on public land and clean up homeless encampments, especially in areas near aquifers and waterways.
The House majority voted the amendment down.
House Republicans proposed 12 amendments in total to improve HB 1181. None were adopted by the Democratic majority.
Abbarno urged the House to vote against final passage of House Bill 1181 because it fails to address today's socioeconomic problems, such as housing, clean water, public safety, and more.
