Rep. Peter Abbarno stands up for parental rights, urges a no vote on Senate Bill 5599

On April 12th, Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, stood on the House floor and urged the body to vote no on Senate Bill 5599.

The measure would allow youth shelters, and other similar organizations, to not to notify a parent if his or her child enters their facility seeking or receiving “gender affirming” treatment or reproductive health care services.

Abbarno also spoke in favor of amendment 662 to Senate Bill 5599, which would have specified that lack of adequate affirmation of a child does not constitute negligent treatment or maltreatment. The amendment was rejected by House Democrats.

Senate Bill 5599 passed the House 57-39 over the objections of House Republicans.
