Rep. Peter Abbarno encourages local students to apply for the Washington State Legislature Page Program
Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, calls on students in the 20th Legislative District to apply for the Washington State Legislature Page Program, an opportunity to immerse themselves in the legislative process. This program provides students with a week-long, hands-on experience at the state Capitol in Olympia, offering a unique government and public service perspective.
“The House page program is an incredible opportunity for students to learn about the inner workings of government and see firsthand how laws are made,” said Abbarno. “It’s a chance to develop leadership skills, gain real-world experience, and make lifelong memories while contributing to the legislative process.”
The Washington State Legislative Page Program brings students from across the state to Olympia each year to actively participate in legislative activities. Pages are sponsored by legislators and serve during the legislative session, which runs January through April in odd-numbered years.
During their week at the Capitol, pages assist with delivering materials, messages, and flags, work on the House floor, and participate in page school. The program’s educational component includes daily classes on state government and a mock committee hearing in a real legislative committee room, providing a well-rounded experience.
“Serving as a page is a remarkable opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in government while building essential skills like confidence, teamwork, and communication,” added Abbarno. “This program deepens civic understanding and inspires young people to explore leadership and public service. I encourage every eligible student to apply.”
Applications are open for the 2025 session. Interested students and families can learn more about the program and submit their applications at leg.wa.gov.
The 2025 legislative session starts on Jan. 13 and lasts 105 consecutive days.
