VIDEO | From affordability crisis to catastrophe: Rep. Peter Abbarno exposes House Bill 1607’s $200 million cost

Washington state is facing an affordability crisis, and families are already grappling with skyrocketing costs. House Bill 1607 will only make things worse. This bill creates a bottle redemption program that will add hundreds of millions in new costs, which will ultimately be passed down to consumers.

Rep. Peter Abbarno, House Republican Caucus Chair, is calling out the hidden financial burden and the risks of turning an affordability crisis into an affordability catastrophe.

⚠️ A $200 million cost shift – The program will force producers to pay massive fees, which will inevitably trickle down to consumers in higher prices at the grocery store.

⚠️ A double financial hit – Combined with HB 1150’s $107 million in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) costs, the financial strain on families becomes unbearable.

⚠️ Regressive and unfair – Struggling families will have to pay more upfront to get their own deposit money back, making it an unfair and regressive system.

Bottom line: HB 1607 is a massive financial hit on Washington families at a time when they can least afford it.

Watch Rep. Peter Abbarno break it all down and see why this bill is the WRONG move for Washington!
