VIDEO | Rep. Peter Abbarno: Fighting for medical freedom; fighting for family medical decisions (Opposition to House Bill 1531)
Should public health policies prioritize individual choice over government mandates? In two speeches, Rep. Peter Abbarno, R-Centralia, House Republican Caucus Chair, advocates for two crucial amendments to House Bill 1531– legislation that seeks to expand the authority of public health officials to promote vaccines and other communicable disease measures.
Abbarno highlights the importance of transparency, ensuring that clinical data and potential side effects of new treatments are fully disclosed.
The amendments would:
➡️ Secure exemptions for individuals who object to immunizations or vaccine requirements on medical, philosophical, or religious grounds, reinforcing parental rights in health care decisions.
➡️ Shift the state’s public health approach from rigid mandates to a framework that prioritizes informed choice, alternative treatment options, and a balanced consideration of individual autonomy in medical decisions.
Both amendments were rejected by majority Democrats. House Republicans voted against House Bill 1531.
