VIDEO | Rep. Peter Abbarno: Protecting staff, youth, and accountability in juvenile facilities (Opposition to House Bill 1815)
During a compelling floor speech, Rep. Peter Abbarno, House Republican Caucus Chair, strongly opposed House Bill 1815, citing its failure to hold violent offenders accountable and protect staff and youth at Green Hill.
As a longtime resident of his community, he shared firsthand accounts from staff and administrators who have been injured in riots caused by dangerous individuals housed in the juvenile system.
Abbarno warned that this bill removes consequences for violent behavior, leaving only incentives with no accountability. He emphasized the need to protect those trying to turn their lives around while ensuring the safety of those who work in these facilities.
Calling the current system broken, he urged his colleagues to vote no on HB 1815.
