VIDEO | Rep. Peter Abbarno: Defending Parents’ Rights to be involved in their children’s lives (Opposition to House Bill 1296)
During a floor speech on House Bill 1296, Rep. Peter Abbarno, House Republican Caucus Chair, passionately opposed legislation that undermines parental rights and compromises the safety of young girls in public spaces.
Speaking as a father, he shared his personal concerns about policies that force children to navigate unsafe environments in bathrooms and locker rooms, highlighting real fears experienced by girls and their parents alike.
Abbarno emphasized the importance of parental involvement in a child’s life, especially during challenging and sensitive moments. He argued that the Parents’ Bill of Rights helped strengthen the crucial bond between parents and their children, providing transparency and access to medical records, schoolwork, and curriculum.
This legislation, he warned, erodes those rights and weakens that relationship.
For these reasons, Abbarno urged a no vote on the bill, standing in defense of parents and their right to be involved in their children’s lives.
