VIDEO | Legislative Recap: Week 3 Recap with Rep. Peter Abbarno
In his Week 3 Recap, House Republican Leader Peter Abbarno talks about the certified citizen-led initiatives that are now before the Legislature.
This week, House Democrats rejected a Republican motion to follow the constitution and hold public hearings for two initiatives signed by 400,000+ Washingtonians.
Article II, Section I of the Washington State Constitution clearly states: “Initiative measures … shall take precedence over all other measures in the legislature except appropriation bills …”
▶️Initiative IL26-001 would guarantee parents the right to review their children’s instructional materials, access school records, be notified when medical services are provided, and opt out of certain classes.
▶️Initiative IL26-638 would protect the integrity of girls’ sports by ensuring female student athletes are not forced into unfair competition with biological males.
Abbarno urges everyone to stay engaged and involved in the legislative process.
